Emileigh was a member of the Nova Scotia Board of Directors previously in the youth representative role from 2017-2019. Emileigh lives with mild Hemophilia B and is passionate about advocacy issues such as ensuring the care and treatment that women with bleeding disorders receive is equitable and improving the quality of life of all people with bleeding disorders. She has been the chair of the Nova Scotia Advocacy Committee from 2019-2023 and was also a member on the CHS Care and Treatment Committee from 2020-2022. Emileigh believes all people with bleeding disorders should be able to live their lives to the fullest without limits!

Erin Van Dusen

Vice-President

Erin Van Dusen is originally from Sydney, Nova Scotia and now lives in Middle Sackville. She is a carrier of Hemophilia B. She is a proud mother of two children, including a daughter who is also a carrier of Hemophilia. She is a special education teacher at an elementary school. She has volunteered with the CHS for several years at both the provincial and national levels. She is grateful to be part of such a passionate and caring community and excited to continue volunteering.

Samantha Kendrick

Treasurer

Samantha Kendrick is from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She has been on the board of director for Nova Scotia for the past 3 ½ years as the Treasurer. Samantha currently sits on the National Board of Directors to represent Nova Scotia. Samantha was diagnosed with a platelet dysfunction in her youth, along with her mother and siblings. Growing up with a bleeding disorder has taught Samantha the importance of advocacy and support for the bleeding disorder community. Samantha started volunteering at Maritime Adventures Camp when she was old enough to be a counsellor. Samantha has a background in Human Resource Management. She is excited to use her skills and knowledge to better the bleeding disorder community.

Lacie Nickerson

Director at Large – Youth Representative

Lacie is a carrier of mild Hemophilia A and has been an active member of the youth group for many years. Since her initial involvement with the NSHS, she has enjoyed helping plan, organize and attend various youth events and currently serves as Nova Scotia’s Youth Director at Large. She is a student in the PharmD program at Dalhousie University, and her main research interests are in pharmacogenetics / DNA biotechnology and exploring how these tools will benefit individuals living with a bleeding disorder. She is a passionate advocate for equitable and accessible healthcare and looks forward to representing women with bleeding disorders as a healthcare professional.

Nick Cheverie

Secretary

Nick Cheverie has been the secretary of the NSHS since the Fall of 2021. Though he is not a member of the bleeding disorder community, he has a keen interest in health care and became a member of the society to learn more about hemophilia and its impacts on our community. Hailing from Amherst, Nova Scotia, Nick is in his 3rd year of undergraduate studies in the Medical Sciences program at Dalhousie University. After completing his degree, he aspires to pursue higher education in the medical field so that he can continue to broaden his knowledge in efforts to help those impacted by chronic conditions.
